Not what you would expect from our neighbors in the northern part of the United States, these kids are just standing, smiling for the Time Magazine camera and enjoying the tundra with their beat up skateboards.
Name brands?
Nope. Just blanks and a passion for the sport that I love. Those kids are awesome.
I never really thought about this concept, considering that a lot of women don't really skateboard. So I thought...
The way the industry is structured, there is definitely no room for women skateboarders, but for whatever reason they are starting to make some noise again.
A few years back when Tony Hawk's pro skateboarder came out, Elissa Steamer (video below) was the only major skateboarder that was female that was getting coverage in magazines. She was more of a tomboy and only had a few tricks.
But there are casual women skateboarders and girl skateboarders coming up, and there is finally a manufacturer making skateboards for them. With sales reaching upwards of 300 skateboards a month, they are coming up and doing something right. Cool Girl Skateboards is a company based out of California, and while they are selling great online they are having a hard time getting into skate shops, because they are mostly dominated by male egos and agendas.
Lastly, I work for a skteboard/snowboard company. We spent 3 or 4 months without a single skateboard sale online. In fact, we have over 2,000 skateboards in stock, and yet we haven't sold a single board. Maybe we should shift our focus on female skateboarders for a change.
I don't know.

If you need a skateboard, or equipment, or anything, check out Double J Skateboards, it's a labor of love, for the love of skateboarding.
In New York, everyone is fighting for space, and it doesn't come cheap. Recently Etnies skate shoes got into some legal drama over a roof top skateboard ramp that they put on the building that they own.
Let's get this straight before I lay down my opinion:
Etnies Owns The Building. Etnies Owns the Ramp. Etnies only lets professional skateboards access the ramp. Etnies is a multi-million dollar company.
The city of New York does NOT want this to continue and will fine the Etnies Corporation 500 dollars a day for not complying. That's only 182,500 per year in fines for having a skateboard ramp on the roof of a building you own!
The one major complaint that seems to be an issue is the noise. The noise can get a little loud, but this is the middle of New York, not some quiet residential area. Plus the roof is owned by the company, so what the heck? Why not? That's what I say.
Apparently neighbors are complaining, and well, I don't blame them too much.
I would complain too if that is becoming a nuisance and I wanted to drive them out of business so that I can flourish.
You have to remember that in regards to the greater good, the City wants to own that property and use it to make more money. If Etnies continues to throw up a middle finger to the law, why not? I for sure would, if I could.
As far as weight loss is concerned, there are a lot of methods to choose from. Your doctor should let you know what you need to do and that usually includes exercise and eating right. However, if you’re morbidly obese and you’re going to have to make a life changing decision, make sure it’s the right one. If you’re looking into los angeles weight loss, you might want to check out the latest tech on LapBand surgery. Remember, make a well planned decision and talk to a doctor, don’t just jump the gun. Be safe, stay strong, and lose weight.
Here's one of the most underrated skateboarding companies in the business mixing some of the best artwork I've ever seen on skateboards.
It's a limited new series drawn by Dave Quiggle. These are amazing decks because if you buy both editions and put them together on your wall or ceiling or simply put them side by side, you will begin to see something spectacular!
I have joined both items to showcase the cool effect that these decks have. The artwork is just super cool, and of course Endurance Skateboards has to be proud of this latest edition skateboard. You can pick up these skateboards for 46.99 each and get free shipping while you're at it from Endurance skateboards online store. Dave Quiggle has done a lot of great art, but tying in skateboards with his artwork has to be one of the best things he's done in a long time.
As if Nixon needs my help with selling their products, it's awesome to see that a company has their ear to the ground in regards to what is good and awesome for action sports heads like me.
They are releasing limited edition watches that feature real skateboards and snowboards that were used by Tony Hawk, Ryan Sheckler, Danny Way and others! This is a really cool limited edition thing, and I'm glad that I can be a part of it in someway, shape or form. The watches are pretty cool, but they are pricey. They are really rare, and super limited edition, and that's not just a marketing ploy. Only 500 of each style were made from each rider. If you're at all interested in getting yourselves one, check out Snowboard Connection online, as of this post, there are only 5 watches left. They are one of 2 stores in the whole Northwest to get these super rare items. I for one wish I had a few pennies to get a piece of skateboard and snowboard history.
Why the plug?
I work for Snowboard Connection at the moment, so I get to see all the cool new things that come to our shop, these watches are definitely a highlight in recent inventory.
I think they are just great. Nixon is really doing something cool for the skateboarding and snowboarding community alike.

Apparently skateboarding is not only big here in the United States, it has also transcended the seas and the gap across the world to Indonesia. I was surprised to see the article below, and apparently I was wrong to think that the hot spots of skateboarding were only located in English Speaking countries.
Below you will find an article on an Indonesian skater who has won a recent contest. This also comes in light of the fact that China has embraced skateboarding as well. This is huge news for those of us that care about skateboarding. Check it out below.
I had never heard of Steve Nishimoto then I saw these awesome decks featured on FormFiftyFive and my eyes were opened.
Zoo York has some incredible artwork on their decks, and this set is no different. Translucent in a way, simple, yet artistic in the shape, these decks feature the heart of art and culture mixed with the unbreakable city.
I must admit, I was so against Nike joining the ranks of skateboarding glory, but I can't argue with their methods or their team. Their team just came through Seattle and tore up the local skatepark, mopping up all the rails, ledges, boxes, and pyramids, impressing the kids and sending out their corporate propaganda.
I really can't stand the shoes, and the way they muscled into our industry, but I guess I have to just be happy to see skaters getting some dough and skating hard as usual. Diehards aside, the NIKE SB team can throwdown. Respect is earned.
5 Boro Skateboards unites the big apple with the community that has seen light all over the nation. New York City is huge, and 5 Boro skateboards represents their city through skateboards and skateboard clothing. The decks feature some cool artwork, the city has some major spots, and while Zoo York is on the mainstream scence, 5 Boro skateboards create something tangible for the underground. Something pure, something worth skateboarding on.
Live long and skate...NYC! If you really want to get a deck, buy it from Snocon...they are one of the few companies carrying the decks.
Before the money, before the movies, before the greater things in life, Jason Lee was a professional skateboarder and was revolutionizing the way street skateboarding was viewed, filmed and understood. Things became more and more apparently good as the media started to see that Jason had more talents than just skateboarding the streets.
Here's an early clip....don't know who Jason Lee is? Then you're blind...no pun intended.
